Every family in America has Thanksgiving day traditions, but not every family has a daughter with a blog. True to form, I took pictures to chronicle our many strange family traditions on the indulgent day.
Tradition #1: Get up and watch the Macy’s (Thanksgiving) Day Parade! Is it just me, or does anybody else get seriously peeved when somebody calls it the Macy’s Day Parade?! FYI America, “Macy’s Day” does not exist; there is no such holiday! *Sigh* I feel better. I’ve always loved parades, and the Macy’s parade is no different. I honestly don’t know what it is, but trust me, if you are at a theme park with me and a parade begins, expect to see me running towards it screaming “Parade!!!!!” (this actually happened during our last Halloween Horror Nights Trip; it wasn’t a parade, but I sure thought it was).
Tradition #2: Ruin mom’s photos. Every year, my mother attempts to corral our immediate family together and take advantage of the fact that we all look presentable by snapping photos for our family christmas cards. Every year, we attempt to ruin said photos.

Tradition #3: The Thankful Turkey. This is a very cute tradition invented by my creative mother years and years ago. Every year, she makes a paper turkey with large construction paper feathers on which every person at Thanksgiving dinner (which is usually around 40 people) writes the things that they are Thankful for. At the end of dinner, someone reads all of the entries. Some are funny, some are sobering, and some are simple but somehow thought-provoking.

Tradition #4: Colonel Sanders? I don’t think anyone really knows the story or significance of the Colonel Sanders piggy bank, but the family heirloom keeps watch over our meals every Thanksgiving.

Tradition #5: Eat, DRINK, and be Merry! Oh yes, our family loves wine. Of course, we demolish the meal and dessert, but we go through an impressive number of wine and beer bottles every year as well.

Tradition #6: One smoked, one baked, and one deep fried. Oh yeah, we eat 3 turkeys and a ham every year, and being lovers of variation, we cook each turkey differently. We usually all cast our verbal votes for the winner, but it has become accepted that the fried turkey will win every year.

Tradition #7: This family gambles on Thanksgiving. As is tradition, every year we all play 2 games of LCR. LCR is a dice game with a $3 buy in – it is all luck; no skill required, which means anyone can win, young or old. This year, the youngest player at the table (my brother, Caleb) won the first game, and the oldest player at the table (my great aunt Ruth) won the second game!

Tell me about some of your family’s Thanksgiving day traditions! Do you all load up the van after dinner to hit the black Friday doorbuster deals? Do you only eat chinese food for Thanksgiving dinner? Tell me the weird ones! I want to know!
Oh, and Happy Holidays!
Forever Fierce,
Channing
P.S.
To all major radio stations and TV channels, NOW is the acceptable time to start playing Christmas music and Christmas shopping commercials, not the day after Halloween.
