Channing’s Weirdo Fashion Spotlight: Worker Boots

Channing’s Weirdo Fashion Spotlight: Worker Boots

This butch trend has been on the fashion scene for a while now, but I am still one of the only people I know… scratch that… the ONLY person I know (yes, I do know myself) who has attempted to wear them! I bought a pair from Forever21 about a year ago and I literally wear them all the time. I usually like my outfits to have a bit of an edge to them, whether it be fringe, feathers, big glasses, menswear, or denim outerwear, I try to work it in. The worker boot trend makes it so easy to add some grunge to an otherwise safe outfit. I wear my worker boots with anything from short sundresses to skinny jeans and enough layers of relaxed tops and outerwear to make you think that I am hot for the ladies. These boots also allow you to show off your socks! I rarely wear my worker boots without some cute/funky socks poking out the top! I almost feel like I can’t say anything that would convince a fearful fashion sissy-pants to try worker boots… you just have to go for it!

There are so many ways to wear this trend!

Grow some balls and try it. You’ll look hot.

Channing

Holiday Do’s and Don’ts

Holiday Do’s and Don’ts
Holiday Do’s and Don’ts

Tis the season for warm clothes and fattening sweets, but make sure you do it right!! Here are tips to get you to a Happy New Year!

1. Do wear adorable cloche hats (anybody know how to actually say ”cloche”?)

Cute (affordable) cloche hats from Target

2. Do discriminate when it comes to your feather earring selection.

NO

YES! (Channing actually already owns this pair - from Target)

3. Don’t wear your comfy slippers beyond your home’s threshold. There is no exception to this rule. Don’t do it. (Mari actually saw a girl at the mall in bedroom slippers and a sequin skirt…on purpose)

Not acceptable for non-domestic wear!

Not even these cute ones (I know you loophole-seekers are out there)

4. DO make delicious holiday treats! (Recipe follows)

So Jolly!

Little tip: Don't make these at your boyfriend's house. This is how we had to smash the peppermints because they didn't have ziplock bags, paper towels, foil, wax paper, clean plates, nor any possible tool for smashing mints (besides the bottle of oil which we used as a makeshift hammer).

Oh hey, you've got a little drool on your lip...

“Christmas Spirit Sticks” Easy Recipe:

Ingredients:

1 bag of Jumbo Pretzel Sticks

1 bag of peppermint candies

1 bag white chocolate pieces (we used Ghiradelli for both chocolate flavors)

1 bag milk chocolate pieces

1 good holiday music radio station

Directions:

Place unwrapped peppermint candies in a large ziplock bag and seal. Smash candies with any handy mashing tool (we used a glass bottle) until broken into tiny pieces. Spread the peppermint flakes onto cookie sheet.

Melt the chocolate in separate glass bowls (we used a microwave due to lack of double boiler). Microwave must be set to 50% power for the entire melting process (otherwise it WILL burn)! Pour the chocolate pieces into medium sized glass bowls and microwave on 50% for 1 & 1/2 minutes. Remove and stir until bowl is no longer warm. Repeat at 15-20 second intervals (at 50% power) until smooth. Tip: it is best to do one chocolate flavor at a time because the chocolate will harden during the assembly process.

Break pretzel sticks in half. Dip, smother, and otherwise engulf the pretzel in chocolate, leaving an inch free for holding.

Roll the chocolate covered pretzel halves in peppermint flakes until you reach desired crunchiness.

Layer Christmas Spirit Sticks on wax paper and refrigerate until hard (about 15 minutes)

Eat all of them and don’t share. Just kidding! It’s Christmas, a time for giving, you pig!

Fun Gift Idea: Wrap 5 Christmas Spirit Sticks in holiday colored plastic-wrap and tie with twine or festive ribbon! OR fill a cute jar with Christmas Spirit Sticks for a reusable holiday stocking-stuffer!

Have fun guys, and Merry Christmas!

Mari & Channing

We’re so hip.

Pretty (super inexpensive) produce

Working on our fitness with the unexpectedly heavy produce bags (Girl, look at that body! I WORK OUT!!)

Mari gets distracted easily (her retort: "it's a cool industrial lamp, OKAY?!")

That's just how Channing sits. FASHION SHOT!

How editorial is this

Preview to our new segment called "The hazards of Being Boho"... Channing was trailing leaves everywhere she went.

The sky painted in the windows of the inorganic skyscraper sparked a reminiscence like no other

We look better in dirty windows.

Ok guess what she is climbing on....

..is it a mountainside? Is it the ancient ruins of a Mayan temple? Is it a remote outcropping of jungle in the wild canopy of Bolivia on which Jane is climbing?!?!?!?

No! It’s just a vine-covered parking garage. But it certainly looks like the Rain Forests of Central America, does it not?

Well, that was our day! Yes, we did get several odd glances and wayward stares, but all in the name of fashion, blogging, and supporting local farmers!

Macy’s Day Traditions

Macy’s Day Traditions
Macy’s Day Traditions

Every family in America has Thanksgiving day traditions, but not every family has a daughter with a blog. True to form, I took pictures to chronicle our many strange family traditions on the indulgent day.

Tradition #1: Get up and watch the Macy’s (Thanksgiving) Day Parade! Is it just me, or does anybody else get seriously peeved when somebody calls it the Macy’s Day Parade?! FYI America, “Macy’s Day” does not exist; there is no such holiday! *Sigh* I feel better. I’ve always loved parades, and the Macy’s parade is no different. I honestly don’t know what it is, but trust me, if you are at a theme park with me and a parade begins, expect to see me running towards it screaming “Parade!!!!!” (this actually happened during our last Halloween Horror Nights Trip; it wasn’t a parade, but I sure thought it was).

Tradition #2: Ruin mom’s photos. Every year, my mother attempts to corral our immediate family together and take advantage of the fact that we all look presentable by snapping photos for our family christmas cards. Every year, we attempt to ruin said photos.

Nice picture...

RUINED PICTURE!!!

Tradition #3: The Thankful Turkey. This is a very cute tradition invented by my creative mother years and years ago. Every year, she makes a paper turkey with large construction paper feathers on which every person at Thanksgiving dinner (which is usually around 40 people) writes the things that they are Thankful for. At the end of dinner, someone reads all of the entries. Some are funny, some are sobering, and some are simple but somehow thought-provoking.

This year's Thankful Turkey

Cousin Jennifer contributing her thoughts to the turkey's wise feathers

Tradition #4: Colonel Sanders? I don’t think anyone really knows the story or significance of the Colonel Sanders piggy bank, but the family heirloom keeps watch over our meals every Thanksgiving.

Colonel Sanders guarding the dessert table

Tradition #5: Eat, DRINK, and be Merry! Oh yes, our family loves wine. Of course, we demolish the meal and dessert, but we go through an impressive number of wine and beer bottles every year as well.

My dad and I partaking in this intoxicating tradition

Tradition #6: One smoked, one baked, and one deep fried. Oh yeah, we eat 3 turkeys and a ham every year, and being lovers of variation, we cook each turkey differently. We usually all cast our verbal votes for the winner, but it has become accepted that the fried turkey will win every year.

The aftermath (that's right, these are just the leftovers!)

Tradition #7: This family gambles on Thanksgiving. As is tradition, every year we all play 2 games of LCR. LCR is a dice game with a $3 buy in – it is all luck; no skill required, which means anyone can win, young or old. This year, the youngest player at the table (my brother, Caleb) won the first game, and the oldest player at the table (my great aunt Ruth) won the second game!

What a little Highroller

Great Aunt Ruth, the Bookie

Tell me about some of your family’s Thanksgiving day traditions! Do you all load up the van after dinner to hit the black Friday doorbuster deals? Do you only eat chinese food for Thanksgiving dinner? Tell me the weird ones! I want to know!

Oh, and Happy Holidays!

Forever Fierce,

Channing

P.S.

To all major radio stations and TV channels, NOW is the acceptable time to start playing Christmas music and Christmas shopping commercials, not the day after Halloween.

Mari and Channing Go Green at the Orlando Farmer’s Market!

Mari and Channing Go Green at the Orlando Farmer’s Market!

Hello everyone! I feel like a century has passed since I have clicked on “new post” and put my fingers to the almighty keyboard from which our many blogs emerge. I do realize that it has only been a little over a month and that I was a tad melodramatic, however, I’ve missed our readers, hanging out with my bff, and blogging very much!! I’m so glad to  finally be back! After a stint in a dinner theater show and a move to Orlando(yay Chan and i are together!), Channing and I are blogging again which means fateandfashion.com is back up and running!!!

With all of that being said, here it is, our first collaborative blog since our short hiatus.

We decided to make this a photo blog because pictures are the best way to show the wonderful experiences and tastes you can embark on by shopping at your local farmer’s market. Shopping locally helps support local businesses, local farmers, and is a great way to go green. Not only are you getting delicious and healthy(and some not so healthy but delicious nonetheless, as you will soon find out) food, but great people, one-of-kind goods, and just and overall good time spent out doors. Buying local food  also  cuts down on the distance food travels, reducing the consumption of oil and carbon emissions nationwide. So what better way to spend a day than going green and doing your part to protect our earth by having a great time at your local farmer’s market!!!

Here is our day through pictures…….

Delicious and fresh locally grown plums!!

Me "trying" to climb a tree, swearing that if I only had a couple of knives on hand I could scale the whole tree "Man Vs. Wild" style!

Adorable shot with the lovely "I'm trying to acknowledge that it's fall but it's not working since I was planted in the wacky-weather state of Florida" tree. Yes, this was a VERY talkative tree!!

Channing posing with her perfectly picked and purchased pineapple! (I love alliteration.)

Cool shadow pic that makes it look like I am yelling at Chan but our REAL concept was that she was like "Where should I go?" and I pointed and said "That way!" ...I know. The concept is very deep...almost too deep.

Contemplating my surroundings....

Super -awesome tree shadow. Enough said.

Our gorgeous surroundings!

He began as a mere mushroom. He will become pure greatness...portobello mushroom soup!!

Delicious FRESH produce!

The beauty of the fresh produce stand!

Fresh baked bread from our bread guy! We got a savory blue cheese and garlic, a decadent cream cheese pound cake, and a divine peach cobbler loaf!( This is where the not-so-healthy come in but it is oh-so-delicious!)

More delicious goodness!

We went not planning on buying cheese...in my defense, the women just kept handing me free samples. So really, it's her fault we bought the deliciously decadent , hand-crafted, artisan cheese. The pink is a port-wine cheddar and the white a creamy french-breakfast cheese.

Anyone looking for an artsy foot shot?? Because you just found it.

Fashion shot in the nook of a big tree.

Two words: Candid & Camera

Channing capturing the essence of our great time at the farmers market in this candid shot!

Chan's amahhhhzing find! Such cute earings and at a great price!!

Our favorite pic of a great day at the downtown Orlando farmer's market!

So there it is! Our wonderful day told through pictures that show how great trips to your local farmer’s market can be! If you live in the Orlando area, you should check it out. It runs from 10am to 4pm every sunday in downtown Orlando by Lake Eola. If you live somewhere else, go online and find your local market so you can start having fun, saving money, and going green! Take the challenge at http://www.buy-local-challenge.com/why.html, a great website dedicated to getting people to shop locally!

Have a great week!

Huge Breaking News!!!!

Huge Breaking News!!!!

The fashion gods have smiled down on the lowly non-celebrities (and anyone else who cannot afford to pay thousands of dollars for a single dress)! Donatella Versace… yes, that Versace is putting out a line at H&M!!!! The line opens this Saturday, Nov. 19th and runs from $20 to $200! So not only is H&M launching their e-commerce soon, which we all know I am crazy excited about, but they also have one of the most sought-after, iconic high-fashion designers joining their team! Swoon.

Here, check it out: http://www.hm.com/us/versace#home

The only downside: the music on the Versace for H&M site is seriously creeping me out.

Since we’ve been gone…

Since we’ve been gone…

We’re back! Mari and I are excited to announce the end of our blogging sabbatical! Expect posts that are as frequent as they are engrossing from now on! While on hiatus, our lives did go on without you, so naturally, you’ve missed a few things. Mari and I both turned 23, I dyed my hair about 8 times, Mari had her laptop stolen (and then miraculously returned), Christmas music has aggressively pushed back it’s radio air-time start date to November 1st, Halloween was awesome and the costume was a hit, Mari’s show was amazingly adorable and fun, I had a short (but passionate) affair with the penny auction site “beezid.com” (seriously, if you have a ton of time on your hands, try beezid. You can get some amazing deals on there; I just don’t have the time.), and last but certainly not least —– MARI MOVED TO ORLANDO! Thats right! For the first time in 5 years, my best friend and I live in the same town! Expect greatness, folks. Expect greatness to come of this. Here are some pics of our escapades during the blogging break!

It’s not you, it’s us….

It’s not you, it’s us….

As I’m sure everyone has noticed (considering the fact that we haven’t posted in over 2 weeks), fateandfashion.com is taking a little break. Mari and I are both very busy, but as soon as Mari’s show is over, and we both live in the same town, we will start blogging again in full force! I just got our FateandFashion.com independent fashion blogger business cards in the mail… so yeah… we’re serious.

Thanks for your patience! I know our fans are a little obsessive (a girl can hope, right?), so we will be back as soon as possible!

Channing’s Weirdo Fashion Spotlight: Round Sunnies

Channing’s Weirdo Fashion Spotlight: Round Sunnies
Channing’s Weirdo Fashion Spotlight: Round Sunnies

This trend is taking the fashion world by storm, but a lot of people still feel it’s a little too

Celebrities are loving this circular trend!

weird to try for themselves. Don’t be scared guys, the round sunglass look is so easy to pull of, and they look good on nearly every face shape! Remember when the massive-framed sunglasses were all the rage? You know, the ones that made everyone look like a giant bug? Those were awful, and literally EVERYONE wore them! These,

I first discovered this look on Khloe Kardashian... and she totally rocks it!

on the contrary, are so retro-chic that they could be called timeless (see? even John Lennon liked ‘em!), and they are flattering on everyone! I recently bought these from the new Kardashian Kollection at Sears (honestly, this pair of glasses was one of the only pieces from their line that I would even consider buying… I’m a little disappointed), and I love them!

How to wear this weirdo trend:

The circular sunnies look best as an accessory to a retro-grunge look (or any retro look for that matter). Loose hair, lots of denim and fringe, and maybe a little leather or suede will make the glasses pop. They can also look super chic in an Audrey Hepburn inspired solid black look! I wore my round glasses recently with a red outfit; complete

Nicole Richie has the ideal sense of style to pull off these spherical shades

with red lips, and my freshly dyed red hair pinned back in a 1960′s-inspired half-up look. I also wore them with a hippie-chic outfit complete with messy stick straight hair and a single braid by my face. You can try anything… the point is that you TRY!

What not to do:

This trend is really only acceptable in dark colors. You need to buy these glasses in either black or brown. Please do not let me catch you in big round white, yellow, purple, or any other stupid colored sunglasses. I will stop talking to you on the spot.

NO

Try it yourself, and let me know what you think!

Mari’s Fierce Find of the Week…The Convertible Dress!!!

Mari’s Fierce Find of the Week…The Convertible Dress!!!

My birthday is in exactly a week from today and, since my Mom is someone who really likes to plan ahead, she ordered by

This is me in my teal convertible dress along with my wonderful boyfriend Torrey! Amazing photo by Enduring Impressions Photography! http://www.facebook.com/EnduringImpressions

birthday gift about two months ago and decided to give it to me early… and I am so glad she did! She saw what was to be my gift on the Today Show segment  ”Jill’s Steals and Deals” and decided to not only order one, but two for me and one for my brother’s girlfriend. So, when the gift finally arrived, she decided she couldn’t wait any longer and gave it to me on the spot. I opened it and I found the amazing convertible dress in a deep teal as well as a convertible mini-dress in black! Now, of course I was excited(who isn’t excited about new clothes?) but once I figured out how to wear these two dresses, not to mention the MANY different ways I could wear them, I was ecstatic!! I even wore the teal dress for a photo shoot I did with Enduring Impressions Photography for my new acting head shots(and since my boyfriend Torrey was getting his done too, we got a ton of great pictures together!!) I seriously have nothing to say but great things about the convertible dress done by 2 chix. 2 chix are originally known for their great maternity wear but

Make the dress your own by accessorizing! I did this by adding my own brown belt!!

have since branched off into non-maternity wear with their convertible dresses! It was a great

After the photo shoot I accessorized it more by throwing on a straw fedora and some fun bangles for an effortless summer turning into fall look!

investment because the fit is great, the color choices are wonderful, and you can wear it as a skirt, a one-shoulder dress, a strapless dress, a v-neck dress, a cap-sleeve dress, and the list goes on and on! By adding your own accessories to the dress you can dress it up or down and truly make it your own. My only warning is to any woman who considers herself petite(5’4 and under): DO NOT GET THE REGULAR DRESS!! GET THE MINI!! The regular convertible dress was almost a maxi on my 5’6 body, so petite women would literally be drowning in it! But, the mini, while a little short on me, looks awesome on petite girls!! My brother’s girlfriend who is 4’11 seriously rocks the mini!! Also, the convertible dress is a little pricey…but if you can find a deal for it online or like the deal on the Today Show, you can get it for a steal! However, if you do pay full price, you will not regret it!! These dresses are amazing!!  You can find the dress and different ways to wear it at http://www.2chix.com/ as well as sign up for discounts and special offers!! If you want a cheaper alternative, click here to go to  a different site where you can purchase the same type of dress for only $33.99 or click here to get one for $25! I can’t endorse these convertible dresses because I have never tried them, BUT,  they look comparable and the reviews look good! The only downside is that I don’t love the color choices, but maybe you will! As i said before, the convertible dress is seriously worth the money and one of the absolute best gifts(thanks mom! ) I have ever gotten!!

Forever Fierce,

Mari
